The 39 Steps Honoured In New York
The 62nd annual Tony Awards took place at Radio City Music Hall on June 15th. The event, America’s most prestigious theatrical awards, was hosted by Whoopi Goldberg who made a spectacular flying entrance into the auditorium as Mary Poppins. The 39 Steps scooped two awards Best Lighting Design for Donald Holden and Best Sound Design for Mic Pool.

Indiana Jones And The Classical Crossover Chart
New on this week’s Billboard Classical Crossover chart at number 14 is the Silva Screen release, The Indiana Jones Trilogy. Performed by the 85 piece City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and the 60 piece Crouch End Festival Chorus, it features three stunning symphonic suites of the music from the first three films in the series.

Broadway loves The 39 Steps
Nominees for the most prestigious prizes in American theatre, The Tony Awards have been announced. The stage equivalent to the Oscars, the 62nd annual event will take place at Radio City Music Hall on June 15th. The smash-hit production of The 39 Steps which opened on Broadway this year has six nominations. Based around Alfred Hitchcock’s greatest British film, the production uses a wide range of music from the director’s catalogue of cinema greats including Psycho and Vertigo. Silva Screen’s release (SILCD1248) contains all these plus more of the period music which all makes this show such a unique piece of theatre.

SILVA SCREEN TOPS THE CHARTS
Doctor Who - Series 3 - Original TV Soundtrack has rocketed to the top of the UK iTunes soundtrack chart after just four days on release. Murray Gold’s evocative score and songs from the most recent series has been eagerly awaited by fans since news of the release was announced and it’s now outselling titles such as Dirty Dancing, High School Musical and Grease. Dame Petula Clark?
Petula Clark has been in show business for over 60 years, has sold 70 million records worldwide and is, as The Guinness Book Of Records confirms, Britain’s most successful female recording artist in history. In 1998 she was awarded the CBE and there is now a petition on the Downing Street website to make her a Dame, joining the illustrious company of her fellow singing artists who include Julie Andrews and Shirley Bassey.
