The contemporary arrangements of traditional Indian ragas and original compositions featured on USFRET, the solo recording debut of the Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu, highlight the diverse talents of one of creative music’s most distinctive instrumental voices. Born in Bombay in 1951, Gurtu has been a respected member of Europe’s jazz and World Music scenes since settling in West Germany in 1977 and embarking on a multi-faceted career that has found him performing with such artists as Don Cherry, Charlie Mariano, John McLaughlin, Philip Catherine, Jack DeJohnette, Gil Evans, Archie Shepp, Airto Moreira & Flora Purim, John Abercrombie.
